05.02.2010 - Meeting of the SADC Ministerial Task Force on Regional Economic Intergration
The 9th Meeting of the SADC Ministerial Task Force on Regional Economic Integration was held in Johannesburg, RSA on 4 February 2010 and was preceded by a Strategic Forum of the Ministerial Task Force on 3 February 2010. The purpose of these meetings was to discuss and provide political and strategic guidance in view of the new challenges confronting the SADC region in pursuing its integration agenda.

The SADC Secretariat would like to announce that Ministers responsible for Agriculture and Food Security will be meeting on 5th February, 2010 in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo. The Minister’s Meeting will be preceded by a meeting of Senior Officials from 2nd to 3rd February, 2010.

A three day workshop on cross-border fire management in the SADC region will start on January 25, 2010 in Maputo at the VIP Hotel. Almost one hundred participants are expected from all SADC Member States, from government, civil society, private sector and science. Experts from international, regional and national organizations will support the discussions.

The rains have been episodic in many parts of SADC. The satellite picture of 18 January 2010 at 1200 hours (UTC) shows extensive areas of light shading depicting intense cloudiness and precipitation. Meantime, the January to March 2010 rainfall projections for most parts of SADC are still largely consistent SARCOF-13 (details in pages 3 and 4).

1. The meeting of the SADC Ministers responsible for Environment and Sustainable Development was held in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe on 13th November 2009. It was attended by Ministers from Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Namibia, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe. The Democratic Republic of Congo was represented by her Deputy Ambassador to Zimbabwe, while the United Republic of Tanzania was represented by a Senior Officer. Also in attendance was the SADC Deputy Executive Secretary for Regional Integration.
